“He oranga ngākau, he pikinga waiora.”
When the heart is well, life is uplifted.
Our Housing Department is committed to supporting whānau into safe, secure, and affordable housing. We know that stable homes are the foundation for wellbeing, and our team works closely with whānau to ensure their living environments support them to thrive.
Our mahi spans three distinct areas:
Through our wananga programmes, we walk alongside whānau who may be experiencing housing distress, supporting them with the tools and confidence to move toward secure accommodation. This includes financial literacy support, education pathways, and wellbeing services that address the whole whānau journey.
We aim to partner with other iwi to provide a unique Māori Property Management service. We currently manage 20 properties within Manawa Gardens, with 15 homes dedicated to our kaumātua (koeke). Our role is to provide quality property management services that ensure safe, warm, and well-maintained homes for our whānau.
Beyond bricks and mortar, our approach acknowledges that housing is a gateway to wellness. For those experiencing housing distress we aim to creating stability, housing whānau and focus on education, employment, health, and community participation to ensure housing sustainability.
We are pleased to announce the establishment of Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Housing Limited as our newly formed subsidiary dedicated to social housing. Our mission is to build homes and foster vibrant communities that support and empower our iwi. Through this initiative, we aim to address housing needs while enhancing the well-being of our people.
